This is a collection of six short films, ranging in length from one to seven and a half minutes. PHONE CALL ON PLANET EARTH is a brief minute of incredulity. N.MEXICO was shot in super 8 and is a low-quality travelogue accompannied by raucous noise. Neither impressed me in any way whatsover. Rather better, since there seemed to be some artistic purpose behind the shooting, are POPPY WINTER SCRAPS II + III. These are strange montages of flickering images. THE UNEXPECTED END OF FORMULA is a brilliant spoof of a documentary. It has a cast, and though some of the acting is a little wooden, it raises a few laughs whilst maintaining a certain mystery. BIKES appears to be a safety video and features a community bike-repair centre. It is interesting if not exactly enthralling. The final piece is AROUND THE TOP. Shot in super 8 it captures the mood of dada cinema with its collage of moving geometric shapes and a soundtrack consisting mainly of a bell and a two-stringed instrument. This is most satisfying and the only segment I'd really like to watch more than once. | ||
