"We love your publications and appreciate the service that your New Hope International Review
provides; your reviewers are excellent and I base many of my book and chapbook purchases
on the reviews therein." Hyacinthe L. Raven (Via Dolorosa Press)
"I'm glad you intend to keep the reviews going. They're a very valuable service. And I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter if the review is plain ill-informed, careless, or a total put-down. It's still exposure. All too often I have the feeling that everything one publishes vanishes down some enormous black hole of silence. So what you're doing is totally necessary. I do of course have quibbles with some of your reviewers, especially when I feel they haven't read the work carefully and get their facts wrong, but this doesn't really matter. At least what they write, proves the work exists which is far far better than total silence." Ian Robinson (Oasis) NHI Review Online started as the internet presence for New Hope International Review and some of the earlier reviews are republished from the magazine. Now, we only publish reviews online. We never alter a review once published except to correct factual errors or misquotes. We constantly update information on publisher's addresses, websites and contact details. Periodically we remove old, outdated reviews. We do not publish unsolicited reviews or review material that we haven't actually seen. We do NOT review ebooks, ezines, web-sites or events. Publishers and others wanting material reviewed should read the Notes for publishers and writers wishing to review for us should read the Notes for reviewers Anthologies and books by more than two authors are listed by title in the Anthology index. Books by single (or, at most, two) authors are listed by author's name. The Book index is subdivided alphabetically to make for faster loading at the expense of double-clicking to find an entry. Magazines are listed by title and the Magazine index is also subdivided alphabetically. Cassettes and CDs are listed in the Audio index. CD-roms, on-disk magazines and software are listed in the Software Index. The Video index lists videos and DVDs. Items not readily classified in the previous categories are listed in the Artefacts index. Links to the fifty most-recently posted reviews can be found under Latest reviews You can now subscribe to the NHIReview announcement list.
This is purely an announcement list to inform readers where to find new reviews posted on the
NHI Review website.
It is NOT a forum for discussion.
If any of the reviews here tempt you to purchase items, your first port of call should be to the publisher or author's website if they have one. If their website doesn't have ordering information or the publisher doesn't have a website then consider sending a good old-fashioned snail-mail letter to their postal address. Whilst books carrying an ISBN can usually be ordered through various online bookstores, you will usually find that the cost of delivery is considerable. Such bookstores will in most cases obtain the book from the publisher at a hefty discount. You will mostly be able to obtain the book much quicker by dealing directly. This is especially true of the small presses who really cannot afford the discounts demanded by bookstores, some of which (not all) take a long time to pay their supplier. Whilst there is a small risk when sending cash through the post, most small press editors will accept payment, especially from abroad, in currency, particularly US dollars, sterling notes and euros, as these are readily exchangeable almost everywhere, whereas bank charges make the changing of small cheques totally uneconomic. If any of our reviews of magazines tempt you as a writer to submit work to them, please do not just email them a submission. Email links are provided to allow readers to make enquiries. In some cases it will specifically state NO EMAIL SUBMISSIONS, but the absence of that statement does not imply that email submissions are sought or acceptable. Buy a copy first to see whether or not you agree with the reviewer. At the very least, seek out their submission guidelines. |
