The Poetry Church Vol.10 #1

A well-produced magazine of Christian prayers and poems (as if you hadn't already guessed). Some nice reviews. To be honest, most of the work struck me as verse rather than poetry, for example FIRST SNOWDROP by Dorothy M. Mitchell: Little snowdrop in my winter's garden I spied you there today Your pure white petals and tiny green bonnet, Danced with a gentle sway.Doubtless this will appeal to some. The reason that most of the writing in The Poetry Church doesn't really work for me is that it simply doesn't go deep enough, either in what it says or in the language used. The authors tend to state their belief rather than undertake a real exploration of faith. There are some brighter moments, for example, THERE WAS A DOOR STANDING OPEN by Robert Irwin: On that threshold all previous limitations are deemed excess baggage. Beyond, all dreams are possible. But these moments are too few for me to feel in any way enriched by The Poetry Church.
