Light's List 2004

If you are looking for an idea of the extent of the poetry scene and the publications available today then you cannot get much better than this. At £3 it is worthy of your support. It is a major undertaking from a small publisher and it is a labour of love. This is the nineteenth annual edition.

A5, perfect bound with 74 pages of listings. This is a well-known reference publication and as it says on the front cover, it lists the titles and addresses together with brief notes of interest for

independent press magazines publishing poetry, short stories, articles, artwork and market information in English.
Countries are listed alphabetically and it starts with Argentina and ends with Yugoslavia. Not surprisingly, the UK and USA seem to commandeer a large chunk of the book, but India, Germany, Australia, and others are adequately represented. There is limited space for each listing but the essentials are there — frequency, address etc.

Take note, as the introduction says, this is not a totally comprehensive listing. Small presses come and go and John Light says:

I have simply included those titles which come to hand. I can no longer contact each magazine every year so I am grateful to users who let me know of corrections. All the magazines listed publish work in ENGLISH.
Consequently, publishers who want to be included should contact John Light.

Just skimming the list makes me feel tired! Handy to keep as a reference book. Recommended.

Light's List 2005

There isn't a lot to be said about LIGHT'S LIST that hasn't been said by the reviewer of the previous edition.

The price has gone up to £4 and for some reason the ISSN has changed.

The page count now exceeds the 80 mark and I noticed fewer obvious omissions from the list, out-of-date addresses or inclusions of known-defuncts than in previous years.

So that's it until 2006 when you'll need the updated edition.
