The NHI website covers a number of distinct areas of interest. Because of this we maintain a number of different link pages. This document spells out our policies with regards to links both from and to other websites. If you wish to create a link to or from our site please read this page before contacting us
General policy
- We do not care for sites that play music, movies, etc. without asking the user first.
- We generally will not to link to sites that are buried in banner ads and web rings with no sign of real content.
- We particularly like ones that do not shut out various browsers by the heavy use of javascript, flash, frames, or which expect the user to have a specific, particular browser.
- As supporters of accessible websites, we like sites that meet the Bobby standard. In particular we dislike sites that use graphics as links without providing "alt text" for the use of those viewing with graphics turned off.
- If you write to us requesting a link, please use a sensible subject-line in your email, or we may simply delete your email unread, thinking it to be SPAM.
- Don't write and just say look at this website as we probably won't. Tell us briefly what the site is, why a link from our site would be appropriate, which page we should link to it from, and quote the full URL beginning http://
- Whilst reciprocal links are often entertained, they should never be made a condition of linking. There must always be a reason, usually related to content, why a link is appropriate. A reciprocal link (either from us or to us) may not always be appropriate. Links for the sake of creating links are useless to readers of the page and denigrate the value of other links.
- We regularly check our links using the Xenu linkchecker. Links that fail the check may be removed quickly, but often we will wait a time and try again manually before removing the link as sometimes a site may be down only temporarily.
NHI Main Links Page
- Our main links page includes links to writing resources, literary bodies and other sites that don't fit into the catagories catered for by our more specific links pages.
- We tend to quickly remove sites that fail the Xenu link check.
Haiku Links
Our main haiku links page generally only considers links to sites that adhere to our main policies, and contain content that is consistent with modern views of the genre.
- Haiku Articles links to specific pages containing relevant articles, whether on haiku sites or more general sites.
- Haiku Reviews only links to reviews carried on the NHI Review site.
Magazine links
- Here we link both to ezines and the websites of printed magazines mainly poetry magazines, but also some fiction and general literary magazines.
- We try not to link to sites that promote competitions heavily, nor to ezines that do not publish proper guidelines for authors.
- Sites that treat writers with disrespect will not be linked to.
New Zealand & Singapore Links
This page only links to those sites that are relevant to the places we visited during our March 2001 visit to The Land of the Long White Cloud.
New Hope International Review
- Individual review pages carry links, where available, to publishers and authors' websites.
- Publishers should view the Notes for Publishers for more information.
- The separate Review links page is a summary of the individual links on the review pages. It is designed mainly for use by the webmaster in checking the validity of those links.
Photographic links
- This page links to photographic sites that we find intersting.
- We tend to link only to sites that comply with our general policies and are easily navigated.
Poets/writers links
- This page links to web pages belonging to individual writers, particularly poets.
- We tend to link only to sites that comply with our general policies and contain informative content.
- Most of the authors whose sites we link to will have a connection with NHI in some way or other.
Publisher links
- This page links to the websites of publishers.
- We favour links to small press publishers, provided their sites fit in with our general policies on links.
- We do not knowingly link to vanity publishers.
Tameside on the Internet
- Links to internet sites concerned with the people, places, businesses, sports, leisure, government, history &c of Tameside.
- We are no longer attempting to link to every single site with a Tameside connection.
- Instead we are concentrating on those that are interesting, informative and accessible.
Yorkshire Dialect
This Survey of Yorkshire Dialect on the Internet has links to sites publishing Yorkshire dialect writing or concerned with the study of Yorkshire dialect. It excludes sites with only a passing reference to dialect.
Links to NHI
We welcome sites that link to our pages. However, we do request that site managers email us and tell us when they link to us. Often the first indication we have is when we spot such a link in our daily web statistics. Since these statistics are quite large and difficult to analyse, we do not view them regularly in any detail.
Authors and publishers are very welcome to link direct to individual pages on the site, especially those where their work is published or reviewed.
We discourage sites from linking direct to our links pages and from linking directly to photographs on the site.
Almost all work on our website is copyright and permission must be sought if anyone wishes to re-use work here published.
