HAIKUTALK & HAIKUTALK2: MAILING LIST DIFFERENCES

HAIKUTALK HAIKUTALK2
The main list is called haikutalk. Whenever a member sends a message to the list address, that message is then relayed to all other members of the list.

There is a separate list called haikutalk-digest. All the messages sent to the main list are accumulated by majordomo until either the total accumulated messages exceeds a certain size or a message recieved is more than three days after the first accumulated message. At this point a digest consisting of all the accumulated messages is sent to all the members of the digest list.
There is only one list. Members can choose their "mail-setting"
  • normal: receive individual emails as they are sent.
  • digest: receive a daily digest of accumulated mail.
  • nomail: receive no mail [post may still be viewed online].
Only members of haikutalk or haikutalk-digest may send messages to the list all of which are sent to the main list address NOT the digest list. Only members of haikutalk2 may send messages to the list.
List messages should be sent to haikutalk@lists.spunge.org List messages should be sent to haikutalk2@yahoogroups.com
Under the majordomo setup there is no equivalent to the "nomail" option. Whilst it is not necessary to create a "yahoo profile" in order to send and receive mail, those who do can manage their own settings, view emails online and access the archives.
Messages to haikutalk are not archived. Members who have created a "yahoo profile" can view the message archives.
Haikutalk carries no annoying, irrelevant advertisments. Haikutalk2 messages include advertising.

"This is probably the best haiku list on the Net, with a nice blend of teachers, poets, artists, translators, publishers and editors and everyone seems to be pretty level-headed on this List." — Gene Murtha.
