patterns in the hoarfrosted windows . . . old tabby's fur |
open market woman with a cold picks over fresh fruit |

working the soil the shadows of the spruce and mine become one |
harvest lunch over farm wife sighs as she begins preparing supper |
|
symphony night inside with each new fur coat the awful cold |
Christmas Eve snow falls so gently on refinery row |
| Jean Jorgensen was born in 1943, delivered by her paternal grandmother in a 2-room log cabin in Canada. Married for over 30 years, she lives with her husband Richard in Edmonton, Alberta. Her collection "Border Crossing" received a Haiku Society of America Merit Award. These haiku were first published in the magazines Woodnotes, Raw Nervz Haiku, Piedmont Literary Review, Haiku Headlines and Haiku Canada. |
